17th May ribbon - On the right or left?
It feels special to have a 17th May ribbon on your chest on Norway's national day. You wear it with confidence. You wear it with pride and joy....
Close to the heart
It is not always easy to remember which side to attach the 17th May ribbon. The heart is the key word here. According to custom and usage, the ribbon should be closest to the heart, i.e. on the left.
If you are wearing a suit, you can attach it to the top of the left jacket lapel, over the breast pocket.

Can a 17th May ribbon be used with the bunad?
Essentially, the 17th May ribbon is not part of the bunad costume. The bunad is a national symbol in itself and is richly decorated with embroidery, patterns and colours that make the ribbon redundant. Lots of people are therefore against using the 17th May ribbon with the bunad. Whereas, there are also those who do like to combine them. Those who wear a cape like to fasten the ribbon to it so that the vest is not ruined.
17th May ribbons with silver pins are timeless and lasting. They can be used again year after year and are a great gift for all ages. Choose between different local and national motifs in silver. From left: Crown ribbon, Filigree ribbon, Vestfold ribbon, Trondheim rose and Eidsvoll ribbon. And remember, you can use the ribbon with the Trondheim rose for example, even if you don't have a connection to the area. Choose the one you like the most, regardless of any connection.
Man's best friend also needs a ribbon of their own on 17th May! On the bone under the crown there is an area for engraving the dog's name.
